This weekend my wife and I rented a car and decided to go to Gatineau Park for a hike and a picnic, before the winter chill came (I’m a little bit of a baby when it comes to cold weather!). Of course I decided that being in the forest would be the perfect opportunity to take a few pictures, and it wasn’t long before I found a nice little creek!
During the walk, however, we noticed that the temperature became colder and colder until….the first real snowfall of the season was upon us! Again, I don’t particularly like the cold weather, but there is something to be said about seeing snow for the first time since the last winter season. It’s certainly a beautiful thing to see, especially in the middle of a forest with no one around you!
The winter brings some problems for photographers; the cold means that it’s a bit harder to take pictures when your hands are burning from being exposed to -20c weather! When you go inside, the snow melts all over your gear and you have to be extra careful to take care of it. The lenses fog up all the time and it is annoying to no end! But capturing a fantastic landscape picture full of pure, white sow is something you can’t put a price on, and makes all the hassles worth it =)
Editing these pictures was a fun little experiment on adding haze in Photoshop. Let me know how I did! In the meantime, I can tell you that as fun as it was to take these pictures, getting back into the car and cranking up the heat is one of the best feelings ever!
I’m all over the internet! Check me out!
